The Plumbing Engineer oversees the execution of all plumbing activities—both internal and external—on the project site, ensuring alignment with project goals. This role is responsible for the efficient execution, quality assurance, and successful completion of plumbing-related tasks.
- Key Responsibilities
1. Project Management - Design Validation: Validate plumbing designs and perform technical calculations.
- Scope Review: Analyze project scopes, specifications, tender clarifications, and related documents to identify value engineering opportunities and potential project risks.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with contractors, consultants, clients, and internal teams to ensure seamless project execution and close-out.
- Resource Planning: Oversee material and labor planning by coordinating with junior engineers and supervisors. Ensure timely procurement of materials and arrangement of labor or subcontractors.
- Progress Monitoring: Track daily productivity, compare it to planned outputs, and implement corrective actions to maintain efficiency.
- Site Oversight: Manage installations and construction activities to uphold workmanship standards.
Equipment Utilization: Optimize the use of organizational resources, including equipment and machinery. - Authority Liaison: Communicate with local authorities to ensure regulatory compliance.
2. Cost Management - Variation Tracking: Work with Quantity Surveyors (QS) to identify and document project variations, delays, and claims, enhancing profit margins.
- Value Engineering: Propose cost-effective, value-engineering solutions that benefit stakeholders and improve budget outcomes.
3. Engineering - Shop Drawings: Coordinate with engineers and drafting teams to submit and gain approval for shop drawings, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
- Procurement Coordination: Work with procurement teams for vendor finalization, material submissions, and approvals. Track progress through submission registers.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Address complex technical issues to facilitate design and construction activities.
- Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with electrical and other trades to verify equipment loads and communicate necessary changes.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Stay updated on relevant regulations and standards and liaise with authorities for necessary approvals.
4. Quality and Standards - Internal Standards: Implement internal engineering and construction standards, procedures, and templates to ensure consistency in project delivery.
- Knowledge Sharing: Maintain a “lessons learned” register to exchange technical insights and trends across the organization.
- Documentation: Develop detailed method statements for activities per project specifications and ensure comprehensive project closeout documentation.
5. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) - Policy Compliance: Ensure adherence to company and subcontractor HSE policies.
- Incident Management: Report injuries and incidents, and participate in investigations.
- Safety Initiatives: Actively support safety and environmental programs.
- Risk Assessment: Ensure Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are completed as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Skills - Strong knowledge of plumbing design, engineering regulations, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in project planning, management, and cost control.
- Competence in project management tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, or Primavera.
Qualifications - Education: Degree in Plumbing Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in MEP contracting, with at least 3 years in the UAE.
