Role Overview: Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer leads a team of Supervisors operating across one or more projects and is accountable for all mechanical activities (internal and external) within the project. This role ensures the execution of mechanical tasks aligns with the project’s objectives.


Responsibilities

1. Project Management

  • Collaborate with stakeholders (Main Contractors, Consultants, Client, and internal teams) to address project deliverables across engineering, execution, and closure phases.
  • Work with Junior Engineers and Supervisors to estimate material and labour needs, ensuring timely procurement and workforce/subcontractor planning.
  • Monitor daily productivity metrics, compare them against planned outputs, and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Oversee installation and construction activities, ensuring high standards of workmanship.
  • Optimize the utilization of available plant and equipment within the organization.
  • Liaise with local authorities to secure necessary permits and approvals.

2. Cost Management

  • Collaborate with Quantity Surveyors (QS) to capture variation works and report delays, enabling effective claims that enhance project margins.
  • Identify and propose value engineering solutions that benefit stakeholders and improve budgeted profit margins.

3. Engineering

  • Coordinate with engineers and drafting teams to ensure timely submission and approval of shop drawings, tracked via a shop drawing register.
  • Work with engineers and the procurement team to finalize vendors, submit materials for approval, and track progress through material submission/procurement registers.
  • Resolve complex technical issues to ensure successful design and construction outcomes.
  • Align with Electrical and other trades to verify equipment loads against IFCs and communicate changes effectively.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations and standards, liaising with authorities for approvals as necessary.

4. Quality & Standards

  • Apply internal engineering standards, procedures, and templates to ensure consistency in project delivery.
  • Maintain a “Lessons Learned” register and share technical insights across the organization to foster continuous improvement.
  • Develop method statements for activities that are in line with project specifications.
  • Compile and manage project closeout documentation.

5. Health, Safety, & Environment (HSE)

  • Ensure compliance with the company’s HSE policies for all personnel, including subcontractors.
  • Report injuries and incidents promptly and support investigation efforts.
  • Actively participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Ensure completion of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) as required.

Required Skills

  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in mechanical engineering design and regulations.
  • Project Proficiency: Skilled in project planning, management, and cost control.
  • Software Knowledge: Familiar with AutoCAD/Revit, MS Project/Primavera, or similar tools.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 1–7 years in MEP contracting, with at least 2 years in the UAE.
