Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Role Overview: The Mechanical Engineer oversees a team of Supervisors and manages mechanical activities on one or more projects. This role ensures the execution of mechanical tasks aligns with project goals, internally and externally, throughout the project’s lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Management:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including Main Contractors, Consultants, Clients, and internal teams, to ensure timely delivery of project objectives during engineering, execution, and closeout phases.
  • Work with Junior Engineers and Supervisors to quantify materials and labour requirements, ensuring timely ordering and scheduling of materials, labour, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor daily productivity in coordination with Junior Engineers and Supervisors, identifying discrepancies and implementing corrective actions to maintain project efficiency.
  • Supervise installation and construction activities, ensuring high-quality workmanship standards are maintained.
  • Maximize the use of organizational plant and equipment efficiently.
  • Liaise with local authorities as necessary.

2. Cost Management:

  • Work closely with the Quantity Surveying (QS) team to ensure all variation works are documented, delays are communicated, and claims are made to protect project margins.
  • Propose value engineering solutions that benefit all stakeholders, with potential cost savings and improved profit margins.

3. Engineering:

  • Collaborate with engineers and the drafting team to submit and approve shop drawings, tracking progress through a shop drawing register.
  • Coordinate with engineering and procurement teams to finalize vendors, submit materials, and approve suppliers/equipment, with progress tracked through a material submission/procurement register.
  • Resolve complex technical issues to ensure the satisfactory completion of design and construction.
  • Work closely with electrical and other trades to verify equipment loads with IFCs and notify changes.
  • Keep current with regulations and standards by liaising with authorities for required approvals.

4. Quality and Standards:

  • Enforce engineering and construction standards, operating procedures, specifications, and templates to ensure consistent project delivery and quality.
  • Maintain a Lessons Learned register, facilitating knowledge exchange within the organization for ongoing improvements and awareness of internal projects and trends.
  • Develop Method Statements for each activity per project specifications.
  • Oversee project closeout documentation.

5. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):

  • Ensure compliance with company and subcontractor personnel to AFE HSE policies.
  • Report and assist in investigations for any personal injuries or incidents.
  • Actively participate in safety and environmental initiatives and ensure completion of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) as required.

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering design and regulations.
  • Proficient in project planning, project management, and cost management.
  • Familiarity with project development software such as AutoCAD/Revit, MS Project, or Primavera.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 1–7 years of experience in MEP contracting companies, with at least 2 years of experience in the UAE.
