As the Sustainability Manager for Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls, your core responsibility is the daily execution of our sustainability strategy, mainly focusing on our Net Positive commitment. You’ll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to drive initiatives that align with our ambitious goals.
You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our Group’s Net Positive commitment and advocate for various sustainability projects within our Shopping Malls. Your duties include coordinating the implementation of sustainability objectives within the Shopping Malls division to fulfill our overall Net Positive commitment. Additionally, you’ll support sustainability champions and stakeholders across various initiatives.
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and possesses strategic thinking capabilities. You’ll effectively manage relationships with the Shopping Malls Operations and MAF Holding Sustainability teams to ensure seamless execution of our sustainability initiatives.
Position Title: Sustainability Strategy Manager
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Strategic Influence: Shape and refine the organization’s Sustainability strategy by advocating for and implementing optimal solutions to effectively manage and forecast Sustainability initiatives and outcomes.
Implementation Coordination: Led the execution of Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Mall’s Sustainability strategy and associated policies across the organization, leveraging a network of sustainability managers and champions within Majid Al Futtaim Group.
Budgeting and Time Management: Develop budgets and timelines for Sustainability initiatives aligned with company objectives, ensuring efficient resource allocation and project delivery.
Value Proposition Pitching: Calculate and present the potential value of Sustainability initiatives to relevant stakeholders, demonstrating their alignment with business goals and profitability.
Cultural Alignment: Cultivate an organizational culture that reflects Majid Al Futtaim’s core values, fostering a commitment to Sustainability across all levels of the company.
Timely Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate reporting on Sustainability activities, from management updates on sustainability initiatives to operational reporting on environmental performance metrics and Net Positive initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of current legislation and industry best practices related to Sustainability and environmental compliance, ensuring the organization remains compliant and adopts market-leading approaches.
Innovation Integration: Contribute to the modernization and innovation agenda of Property Management, with a particular focus on integrating Sustainability principles into operations.
Recommendation of Actions: Provide recommendations to management to ensure statutory and industry obligations are met while sustaining a market-leading approach to Sustainability.
SBTi Targets: Develop a roadmap for achieving Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) annual targets, providing input for investor reporting and ensuring quarterly updates on initiatives such as energy retrofit, water efficiency, carbon reduction, and renewable energy implementations.
Data Management: Manage environmental performance data, ensuring its accuracy and completeness in platforms such as SOFI and preparing relevant evidence for third-party consultants to achieve 100% data assurance approval.
Committee Representation: Represent the Shopping Malls Business Unit (SMBU) in various committees related to Sustainability, such as Green Star, Refurbishment, and green building initiatives.
Change Management and Learning: Develop and embed a Sustainability Change Management and Learning Program for the Shopping Malls community, facilitating continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
This position requires a proactive individual with strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills, capable of driving sustainable practices within the organization while aligning them with broader business objectives and industry standards.
Personal Characteristics and Required Background:
Skillset:
Proficiency in technical sustainability areas such as green buildings, carbon management, and health and wellbeing.
Demonstrated strong project management skills to coordinate work programs with internal and external partners effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage internal staff effectively.
Advanced analytical abilities and proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
Minimum Experience:
At least seven years of experience in a sustainability-related role within a corporate organization or consultancy firm.
Knowledge of the real estate industry and the built environment, focusing on sustainability practices and initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications/Education:
A post-graduate degree in a sustainability or real estate-related discipline, such as environmental sciences, geography, architecture, or engineering.
Certification as a sustainability-related professional, such as LEED AP or WELL certified, demonstrating expertise and commitment to sustainable practices.
